One for the money and two for the show, three for the Busker who plays by the road.
‘Buskers and Angels’ is a musical written by Australian veteran performer, Jon English, about the music industry and its pitfalls if you happen to lose perspective.
The Busker is quite content on his corner, doing what he wants to do – play guitar and sing. He has seen the ‘dizzy heights’ and doesn’t like the view, he is a man to be envied. Then he meets Lee, an up and coming talent who joins him on his corner busking. They are a great team, and inevitably they fall in love.
But when Lee is ‘discovered’ by a famous Indy label, she is transformed into Angel and led off on a whirlwind journey leaving the Busker behind.
Buskers and Angels combines wit, passion and style as the audience is taken on a journey
Starring Jon English in his own musical as ‘Harry’, the local entrepreneurial hot dog seller who tries to convince the Busker into following Angel’s path with ridiculous and hilarious results; and popular Newcastle talents Amy Vee as ‘Angel’, Gareth Hudson as ‘The Busker’ and Julie Wilson as Harry’s long suffering wife ‘Doris’.
‘Buskers and Angels’ features a host of original ballads and rock songs that will be sure to sweep the audience along to the show’s surprise conclusion (sample the music on www.myspace.com/buskersandangels) and was nominated for The Green Room Awards 2001 in the category "Best Original Music and Lyrics."

JJK’s Production of ‘Buskers and Angels’ will support the “Save the Tassie Devil” breeding program at the Australian Reptile Park in Gosford – the race to save the Devil from extinction being a cause close to Jon’s heart. The season will open with a charity performance on February 26th and continue performances Friday, Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8pm and Saturday matinees at 2pm until March 7. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketek and are $29 adults and $27 concession.
