Kids 2 Keepers programme
Saturday 29th May
The Australian Reptile Park’s Kids 2 Keepers programme aims at providing an intense and very hands on experience for people aged 13-18 years and involves as many aspects of zoo keeping that we can pack into one day!
The day will begin with a general overview of the role and responsibilities of a Zoo Keeper, an outline of the day ahead, a behind the scenes tour of the Park then learn about some of the animals you will be working with throughout the day.
You will be shown correct animal handling skills and will have the chance to handle animals such as snakes, lizards, frogs, alligators, birds and mammals.
Learn some of the many other aspects of zoo keeping such as hygiene routines, standard operating procedures regarding animal feeding and enclosure servicing, animal enrichment, enclosure design and the renovation/construction of current exhibit projects.
At the conclusion of the day and with the guidance and supervision of keepers, each participant will present an animal at the Keeper Kids show to the other students in the program and to any of the Park’s public visitors that may wish to attend the show.
Please note that there is an acceptable behaviour policy for all staff of the Australian Reptile Park. During your K2K experience, you are expected to abide by that policy and if it is considered by the keeper in charge that your behaviour does not meet this criteria, you will be asked to leave the group with no refund of your money and no opportunity to be part of the program on any other occasion.
The cost of the K2K day is $99.00 (GST inclusive) per student and includes morning tea and lunch, and a Certificate of Survival.
Each K2K day has very limited numbers and is capped at twelve students in a group, one group per day.
Suitable clothing and footwear must be worn on the day
